The vision behind the Desert Jewel Mural is to create more than public art — it’s to create a meaningful landmark that reflects the spirit of Castle Rock. Symbolizing community, creativity, strength, and connection, the mural is designed to celebrate the town’s growth and character while inspiring conversation and pride within the community. Featuring wolves as a symbol of loyalty, protection, and unity, the piece also aims to bring awareness and appreciation to these powerful animals while creating a lasting cultural impact for years to come.

Meet the Artist

Rob Bell

Hi, I’m Rob. Born in Japan and raised in Colorado, I grew up sketching and painting people within the landscapes that inspired me most. Influenced by my parents’ eastern roots and a lifelong love for art and culture, I went on to earn a degree in Graphic Design from Colorado State University and later studied studio arts at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

After returning to Denver in 2007, I explored abstract painting before evolving into the figurative mixed-media work I create today. Using chalk pastels with gold, silver, and copper leaf on wood panels, I create life drawings that often feature Colorado-inspired backgrounds and layered poses that suggest movement and emotion. Some people call the work edgy because of the tasteful nudity, but for me, it’s about capturing the human experience and giving a glimpse into the subject’s psyche.

More recently, I’ve expanded into commercial mural work and continue building a full-time life as a creative.
